Us North Korea Agreements
September 23, 2017: U.S. B1-B strategic bombers fly near the North Korean coast, the northernmost they have flown in the twenty-first century. In Japan, most policymakers and politicians in positions of authority take a harder line on North Korea and are wary of the current diplomacy between North Korea, South Korea and the United States. Generally speaking, Japanese leaders believe that North Korea poses a serious threat; whereas North Korea has not complied with previous agreements; and that North Korea has no intention of giving up its nuclear weapons. An interim agreement raises concerns because the progressive agreements with North Korea have not been respected. The current diplomatic efforts are seen as a page in the same North Korean playbook to buy time and offload economic pressure. However, it is important that this decline is largely due to problems with the Korean economy; Only 23 percent of Koreans support the economic policies of the Moon government.14 Moon`s party, the Democratic Party of Korea, holds a small majority of seats in a liberal coalition in the National Assembly. The opposition Liberty Korea Party, a conservative political party that currently holds the second largest number of seats in the Assembly, blocked the Assembly`s ratification of the April 2018 Panmunjom Declaration.15 The Moon government has since decided that neither the agreement on the implementation of the historic Panmunjom Declaration in the military field, nor the Pyongyang declaration, which sets out the steps, which South and North Korea have agreed in order to improve the improvement.
